Essential Elegibility Criteria

All participants taking part in games hosted by Epic: Kayak Ultimate must meet a series of minimum criteria for their own safety, as well as the safety of other players. As we are an organization that thrives and grows on the influx of new players, none of these criteria require the mastery of any skill, but they do require that the participant be able to display a basic understanding of watercraft safety and competence in their vessel without the need for direct assistance from others.

If a player feels that they are lacking in any of these areas, EKU is happy to provide instruction free of charge before any regularly scheduled event throughout the summer, as well as during one of our many wintertime pool nights. If you have any questions or concerns about these criteria and how to receive instruction, feel free to contact us at epickayakultimate@gmail.com, through our Facebook or Google pages, or in person at any of our events.

The complete list of Essential Eligibility Criteria can he found here.

Leisure Games

Leisure games are open play games sponsored by EKU, but largely run by the players, with less emphasis on rules and fouls, and more emphasis on skill building and having fun. Players of varied ages and skill levels are welcome to play in leisure games, but participants are encouraged to use their best judgement as to whether or not they are comfortable participating in a high-intensity paddle sport.

While the emphasis is always on having fun first, there are always moments of intense action, and accidents do happen in any sporting event.

Players participating in leisure play must fill out a waiver before playing in an EKU sponsored event, but do not need to register for play.
Participants may rent the necessary equipment each night, or supply their own equipment, but any equipment supplied by players must meet the requirements laid out in the rules on equipment safety, found in our Equipment Parameters section. Participants under 18 years of age must have a Parent / Guardian Consent Form filled out and on file before playing.

Leisure games will be scheduled twice a week, on Monday and Thursday evenings, and will run through most of the summer months, with exact dates dependent on the weather and water conditions. Additional leisure nights may be added according to player interest.

League Games

League games are official games, set up and administrated by the Epic: Kayak Ultimate organization. These involve scheduled games, between predetermined teams, competing in a set bracket. League play is generally stricter about rules and fouls, and places more emphasis on competition and teamwork. Because of the intensity and highly competetive nature, League play also requires the use of helmets in addition to life vests, and has more stringent age restrictions in place to ensure player safety. Those looking to compete in Epic at the highest levels are encouraged to enroll in League play and aim for a top place in the seasonal bracket!

To participate in League play, players must submit a registration form and a waiver, and pay a $80 participation fee. Players registered for League play will have all necessary equipment made available to them by EKU for no extra charge, though players may use their own equipment instead, if they desire. Equipment supplied by players must meet the requirements laid out in the rules on equipment safety, found in our Equipment Parameters section. Participants under 18 years of age must have a Parent / Guardian Consent Form filled out and on file before playing.

For more information on playing in the seasonal League, check out our League Registration page!

League games are run once per week, on Wednesday evenings, from June until August.
